Traffic mess a regular scene

LAHORE - Police barricades that have encroached on all major roads leading to sensitive areas including offices of law-enforcement agencies are causing worst traffic jams across the City. Erecting defensive walls, putting barricades and placing hurdles at the entrances of the offices of the top police bosses and at other important arteries of the City leading to sensitive areas may not be irking, but encroachments of major roads by the police to build protective walls in the middle of the roads, certainly is. Continuous traffic mess has been now a common scene in the City.
Almost among all the nine police headquarters and other police offices, four located at Shaarey Fatima Jinnah, Abbot Road, District Courts, Nawankot and other main arteries of the provincial metropolis adjacent to nearly all the SPs offices have been closed by putting barricades and posting armed police contingents.
Traffic cannot flow to and from these sites thus inflicting a fatal blow to the smooth running of the traffic. The police have caught up the nerves of the key roads crippling all sorts of movements. This is perhaps the major cause of traffic chaos as all the City roads are connected and inter-linked.
Earlier, on showing anger by most of the Lahorites the decision to erect a huge security wall in front of the CCPO office by dividing Shaarey Fatima Jinnah (commonly known as Queens Road), one of the busiest arteries of the City, into two was withdrawn. But now a big security hedge is being constructed which is causing permanent nuisance for the citizens.
The people have fixed their eyes on Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Chief Justice Lahore High Court Khawaja Muhammad Sharif and CM Punjab Shahbaz Sharif to take the notice of the grave development and issue immediate orders for stopping the construction work.
