Babar Awan granted bail by local court


RAWALPINDI: Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Dr Babar Awan on Friday submitted two surety bonds amounting to Rs100,000 each at a local court after being granted bail and having his arrest warrants cancelled.
According to details, the owner of local newspaper, Sheikh Iftikhar Adil, filed a case against the minister under sections 365, 398, 389 at New Town Police station in 1998. In the case, it was alleged that Dr Babar Awan intercepted Sheikh Iftikhar Adil at the Double Road and snatched cash, briefcase and other items from him before disappearing.
The arrest warrants were issued for Dr Babar Awan for failing to comply with court orders after he failed to appear before the court despite being summoned several times.
The minister personally appeared before the court soon after getting information about his arrest warrants. The court cancelled its order and accepted his surety bonds and adjourned the hearing till December 21
